DF/HCC Cancer Metabolism Symposium

Wednesday, April 16, 2014 at 1:00pm to 5:00pm

Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, Yawkey 306/307

The Cancer Cell Biology Program* and the DF/HCC Alliance for Developing Effective Targeted Therapies** is holding a joint symposium relating to metabolism and cancer. The goal of this timely symposium is to bring together local scientists and clinicians who focus on  basic insight into cancer cell metabolism, translational efforts to target the metabolic dependencies of cancer cells, and epidemiological studies linking metabolism and cancer risk.

Speakers include:

Brian Wolpin (DFCI), “Altered systemic metabolism and pancreatic cancer pathogenesis”

Matt Vander Heiden (MIT), “The role of altered metabolism in supporting tumor progression”

Lorelei Mucci (HSPH), “Metabolic consequences of obesity on cancer risk and mortality”

Brendan Manning (HSPH), “Linking oncogenic signaling to cancer metabolism through mTOR”

Bruce Spiegelman (DFCI/HMS), “Brown Fat and Cancer Cachexia-When Friends Go Bad”

Discussion leaders:

Andrea McClatchey* (MGH), Karen Cichowski** (BWH), Alex Toker (BIDMC)

A wine and cheese reception will follow the symposium.
