Integrative Medicine: Treating the Whole Person - by Donald Levy, MD
Wednesday, October 16, 2013 at 12:00pm to 1:00pm
Integrative medicine is broadly defined as healing-oriented medicine that takes into account the whole person (body, mind and spirit), including all aspects of lifestyle. It emphasizes the partnership between patient and provider, and it makes use of both conventional and alternatives therapies. How do practitioners of diverse healing traditions work together to promote self-healing mechanisms, prevent illness and treat acute and chronic conditions. When would it be appropriate to try one of the following for your medical problem or to help you stay healthy: acupuncture, chiropractic, advanced massage therapy, craniosacral therapy, nutritional counseling, dietary supplements, mindfulness-based stress reduction or Tai Chi? In this introductory talk, the first of four different sessions, Dr. Levy will address these and other questions and will help us expand our views on health and healing.
