"Stem cells, cancer and microbes: the emerging link," Bikul Das, MBBS, PhD
Thursday, January 17
at 12:00pm
to 1:00pm
Abstract: Stem cells have many properties that could be uniquely
conductive for the host resistance and persistence of cancer cells and
infectious agents including: limitless self-renewal, natural resistance to
the immune system, expression of drug transport pumps and the ability
to broadly circulate through a host. In this talk, Dr. Das will describe recent
observations on the interaction between stem cells, cancer cells and
microbes that challenges two paradigms of global health importance: the
cancer initiation/progression, and host-pathogen interactions.
